Year in review: 2011

This is the obligatory flashback of the previous year and bold predictions of the current year.

2011 was a good year.  All in all I made some terrific friends and had a decent year.  Top highlights include the return of Chadwick Huang (I think that was 2011) and several memorable trips with great company.  There was the infamous pretzel-throwing extravaganza in Reno, Tiesto in Vegas, beach-housin' in Santa Cruz, head-thrashing in EDC, the Seattle adventures, and projectile-vomiting Portland.  I went camping for the second time ever and drove a boat.

But it was not all peachy.  Some definite lowlights include Anjuli moving away and losing a few friends.  It took some time to adjust to the move, but I am glad she is happy where she is.  As for losing the other friends, it is probably for the best.  Cady said you have to suck all the poison out of your life and I believe it.  Why keep people around who are a cancer to your life and happiness?  Some friendships and relationships are just not worth saving.  Other friendships, like Anjuli, are the ones you wish you had more of...

Looking forward, I am hoping to build on 2011's mild successes.  Although I have already failed to write up my 100 item bucket list in time, I will likely start it this year.  Be on the look out for a new blog for my bucket list.

Some goals never change but here they are:
  1. Finish writing my bucket list and start
  2. More ink
  3. Vespa
  4. Purchase a home and move in
  5. Become more independent; be less needy
  6. Finish one full cycle of p90x
  7. Stay sober for a month
Probably some more but nothing I can think of right now.   I think one of the biggest problems with setting New Year's resolution is not having a specific goal.  I think if I set goals with a definitive endpoint, I will have a higher rate of success.  I guess we will find out in 2013 how I did.

    Let's get musical.

Reading Chad's post about goals made me think a lot about how I've been spending my time lately.  I haven't been able to come up with any new goal that I haven't already failed at multiple times (exercising regularly, cleaning my room, getting my scooter, etc.).  But coming out of the shower just now, I thought of some very compelling lyrics to a song I would like to write.  The only thing is, I don't know how to play a musical instrument.  So, for the next two weeks, I plan to pick up my guitar again and try to write my song.  To make my goal easier and more realistic, I've set the bar at 15 minutes of practice everyday.  Yes, I know.  This will probably end up on my list of failed accomplishments but it's nice to dream.

I do my best thinking in the shower.  It's the only place I can go and really just forget about everything else.  That, and just sitting in my room singing loudly to throwbacks like this:

This song is somewhere on my "Top 5 Rock Songs of All time" along with:

Have fun rocking out to some of my favorite jams of all time.

    Until next time,

    Home-body

I really should be finishing up my personal statements but seeing as I haven't updated in a while, I'll just leave a quick blurb.

I've been working the last couple of Sundays which has completely changed my weekend outings.  This past weekend specifically, was immensely uneventful.  Other than the Sharks game, I did absolutely nothing.  I can't remember the last time I didn't go out for at least one day out of the weekend.  And by out, I mean out drinking.

Looking back at it, it's surprisingly refreshing to have some of that pressure gone.  Every weekend I have high hopes of something fun happening and I'm rarely disappointed.  But now that I've had time to digest the nothingness that was the weekend, I realized how much calmer my life had been.  I'm not sure if that makes sense, but I think I may begin looking for more non-nightlife things to do around The City.  I'm not exactly sure what else there is to do since I hate a lot of things like watching movies in theaters.  If anyone knows of any social gatherings that frequently occur please let me know.  If I had my scooter, I could attend local scoot-abouts.  I'm not sure that's what they're called but that's definitely a cool name for it.

I'd really like to meet more people...and actually possibly remember them.  Alcohol is deteriorating my mind.  I feel like I'm getting stupider with every drink.  Will I(t) ever stop?  I don't know.  Turn off the lights and I'll glow.  To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal.  Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle.  Dance.  Hellz yeah, bitch.  See what I mean?  I'm also finding more money in my pockets.  I didn't even need to go to the ATM for the past two weeks.

To all you fellow bloggers, your comments for your posts will be arriving shortly.  I'll get to it :]

    Until next time,

    Cheers.

Can't hold a candle to me cause all the moths get in the way.

Not much to blog about lately.  The weekends go by as fast as a speeding bullet but the weekdays are as slow as molasses.  I guess time really does fly when you're having fun.  It's been eight hours of staring at a computer screen pretending to work for the past week or so.  Tomorrow should be the same except for about an hour of meetings.  Can't believe they're paying me for this.

So the progress on the scooter is going slower than expected.  The person I expected to learn from has suddenly fell out of my life.  Sort of... If I don't get a chance to learn from someone, the chances of me getting a scooter will drop dramatically.  I won't even know how to ride it off the lot without some help.   I need to brush up on how to ride.

I feel like I'm losing my science skillz too.  I'm going to throw all of my lectures into my ipod and listen to them at work for the next few days.  Hopefully the sound of my professors voice won't put me to sleep at work.  For a full year (two semesters), I probably fell asleep twice in this class even though it was at 7:30AM every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  The teacher was so intimidating that I didn't want to get yelled at.  This teacher was the best teacher I've ever had.  His method of teaching was through intimidation.  It made me feel so inadequate just listening to him lecture.  He's a professor at SJSU, Santa Clara University, licensed veterinarian, owns his own construction consulting company, and has so many side projects it's ridiculous.  This guy was the shit.  I studied harder than I ever have in my entire life for this class just because I didn't want to look incompetent.  A letter of recommendation from this guy would probably be the best one I could get.  One of his top students is now the head microbiologist for Revlon.  This guy is who I want to be.

    MAYDAY! M'AIDEZ!

Plenty of goodies.  For me that is.  Made my Christmas wish list for myself and it goes as follows:
    1. Some kind of scooter.  Vino?  Vespa?
    2. SLR.  Need to start researching soon.
    3. More interracial friends.  Hah.  Sad but also true.
    4. New laptop? Maybe...
    5. A DOG!  Top picks are pug, husky/malamute/shiba inu/klee kai, or maybe a bulldog.
Probably will get the first two for myself.  The rest is out of my hands so just Kick Back.
